Animating Objects and Text

 

If used sparingly, animation can be an effective method of emphasizing text and images, or guiding your viewers through the presentation.

Adding Animation Effects
To apply a standard PowerPoint animation scheme to selected slides:

  1. Click the tab , select any number of slides, and choose Slide Show > Animation Schemes.
  2. In the Slide Design task pane, choose an animation scheme from the Apply to selected slides list.

To apply a standard PowerPoint animation scheme to all slides:

  1. Choose Slide Show > Animation Schemes.
  2. In the Slide Design task pane, choose an animation scheme from the Apply to selected slides list, then click .

To apply a custom animation:

  1. Select an image or piece of text on one of your slides, then choose Slide Show > Custom Animation.
  2. In the Custom Animation task pane, click and choose one of the following.
    • Entrance to make the text or object enter with an animated effect.
    • Emphasis to add an animated effect that occurs as the slide is viewed.
    • Exit to make the text or object exit with an animated effect.
    • Motion Paths to make the text or object move on a predetermined path.

    As you choose an effect category, choose a specific effect from the submenu. You can add unlimited effects to the selected image or text.

  3. Choose options from the lists at the top of the Custom Animation task pane to fine tune the effect. For detailed start, direction, and timing options, position your pointer on the effect, click , and choose Effect Options.



Editing or Removing Animation Effects
Click the tab, select the slide on which you want to change the animation effects, then do one of the following.

  • Change the sequence of multiple animation effects. Select an effect in the Custom Animation task pane, and click or at the bottom of the pane to resequence the effect. Reposition other effects as necessary until they are listed in the order you want them to occur.
  • Remove an effect. Select an effect in the Custom Animation task pane and click .
  • Change an existing effect. Select the effect in the Custom Animation task pane. Click at the top of the pane, then apply a new effect as described in To apply a custom animation, above.

Previewing Your Animation Effects

  1. Click the tab and select the slide you want to preview.
  2. Click at the bottom of the Custom Animation task pane. Your animation effects are displayed as they will appear when you run the complete presentation. The duration of each effect is shown at the bottom of the pane.
